Number of pages: 416
Genre: High Fantasy, Magic

About (Goodreads): A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

My Review -- 4/5 stars!
Sara Raasch gives readers a brilliant debut in this series called Snow like Ashes. The plot, the climax, setting and everything in between was written in a really good way. She tells he story of Meira as if she was real (let's be real every fictional character is kind of real) and lets the readers do the rest. Absolutely loved this aspect of the book that she portrays in this book.

I dived into this book hearing mostly positive reviews and am happy that those expectations were met with great ease.

Just to remind everyone that this is not different from any other fantasy book. It's plot is similar to any other YA fantasy book. But did I enjoy every aspect of it? Hell yeah. Loved it.

Meira is an orphan girl from birth but also a warrior. She is fighting for her kingdom to be reunited and would do anything to make that happen. But we all know that's not how its suppose to be. There is a huge twist towards the end of the book which is a shock for everyone. I kind of already noticed the twist coming but there was another twist that I didn't see coming which made it really interesting.

Usually, fantasy books have a thing with focusing only on one character. But this book didn't have that aspect to it. All of the characters were well developed and were like that throughout the whole book. I think that aspect is really important in books.

The setting of the book changes every 100 pages or so. Winter, her Kingdom, has been so they can't live there. The book starts with them being outside of the Spring kingdom. Like a forest. 25 people survived Angra's wraith when he took over but after that the number reduced to 8. Some events happen and it forces all of the Winterians to move to a Rhythm called Cordell. And then a HUGE event happens which forces Meira to move to Spring and stuff goes down from there. Loved that little change in atmosphere.

I already ordered Ice like Fire and too excited for it to arrive now. You can buy it here.
