5 tips to help you get out of a reading slump

Posted by Unknown at 16:33:00
Reading Slumps. We all hate them. They just keep us from reading another book. For some of you who don't know Reading Slumps refer to when you just read a great book and you loved. In fact, you loved it so much that you can't get over it.
I had a reading slump at least once. It was when I was reading Queen of Shadows and I loved it so much that I couldn't get over it. There are two different types of reading slumps. There's long-term and short-term. Mine was Long-term. Long-term usually last about 1-2 months where as short-term lasts about 2-3 days.
So here are some tips if you are in a reading slump or your not actually in one right now but what to do when you actually have them. These tips are for long-term and short-term reading slumps. Enjoy!

1. Don't force yourself to read something you don't want to read
After you read the book you loved, you don't want to read anything else. Instead you force yourself to pick up a book from your shelf and read it even when you don't want to. If you do this, chances are that you might be getting out of the habit of reading. Not Always though. But don't force yourself to read. It's just going to bring the confidence of reading books in you down.

2. Pick up a book that is similar to the book that caused you the slump
So you loved the book. But you want to read other books. But you can't get over it. So do some research and find the book that was similar to the one that you just read. So for example, if you just read a Kiera Cass book and you can;t get over it, pick up another Kiera Cass book. Or pick up a book that is very similar to the story to that of the book you loved.

3. Or do the opposite of 2, start with a different genre.
If you loved the book but want to try something different to help you get out of it, you should pick up a book that is completely different from the one you just read. For example, you just read a Fantasy book, so maybe pick up a book that is a contemporary. Or whatever genre besides Fantasy. Pick up a book that the story line is completely different from the one you just read.

4. Change your atmosphere
For a lot of people atmosphere might be the cause of a reading slump. So if your reading in your bed and just finished the book but don't want to read anymore maybe try to start another one reading on your couch. Or in the balcony. On a beach maybe. In your backyard. Whatever you prefer, but the one that you would be comfortable be in.

5. Re-read some of your favourites
Re-reading is great. You get to live your favourite world all over again. It might also help with a reading slump. Maybe re-reading will help you in moving forward.

Thats it. All you need to do is follow any one of them (or whatever helps you).
