The Heir by Kiera Cass

Posted by Unknown at 19:45:00
Sypnosis (from Goodreads):

Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she'd put off marriage for as long as possible.

But a princess's life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can't escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.

Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn's heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she's always thought.

My Review -- 4/5 star!
The One recap: The time has come to crown the winner. With rebels trying to sneak in and attack, the politics are in danger. America tries to solve with Maxon to stop the attacks. She is injured during the process. A shocking reveal, one of the elite members is with one of the attack groups. Celeste is lovely the whole book and is not the same 'mean-girl' type anymore. Aspen has a love affair with someone else in the castle and America is completely okay with it. America and Aspen say that their relationship was a good start but at the same time Maxon finds out about their relationship. He and Kriss decide to announce it the next morning. The next morning, the rebels attack, leaving Celeste, King and Queen dead. Maxon becomes king. He chooses America to make his queen. And thus ends their happy ever after.

This book gave me anxiety. Because of Eadlyn being so self-centred and whiny, I was starting to hate Eadlyn. This story is about America and Maxon's daughter. Eadlyn, like Maxon, has to go through The Selection process.

Other than the fact that my rating is the way it is, is because Eadlyn was selfish. Always saying that she deserved the best and everything following it. The only reason I kept reading this book was because of America and Maxon being cute.

Characters:

Eadlyn (Protagonist)
I know I said it before but she was so annoying. There were a couple (but many) times in the book where she actually improves and the reader started enjoying the winning-free character but something at the same moment would upset her and she would get annoying again.

Kile (Protagonist)
He is one of the selected. He is Marlee and Carter's son. Marlee is America's best friend where she lives with her. Kill, I think was pretty good in terms of behaviour. I think he would be the best match for her since they both grew up together. Even though their relationship starts with them hating each other and just plotting somethings, it grows into much more widely, and thats the kind of relationship that I love.

America and Maxon (Protagonist)
They were cute from the beginning, let's just say that. In this book, their love for each other grew even more. These are the parts were Eadlyn was less annoying but I found her being disrespectful to them. Honestly, I think no one should be disrespectful to their parents because they have done so much for you and all you do is yell at them for no particular reason. But thats just my opinion.

Ahren (Protagonist)
Ahren is Eadlyn's twin brother who is older than her by 7 minutes. If you have seen the Epic Reads trailer for The Heir and heard of the 7 minutes but didn't know what it meant it means this. They are 7 minutes apart. I loved Ahren's character. He was like big brother goals. He was not too much over protective nor he was less. They did have sibling moments, and I'm talking like emotional stuff, which I do not with my sisters (lol), it was actually nice reading about it.

Some of the selected (Antagonist)
Some of the selected were incredibly nice and sweet. but only a few of them, they were like all about kissing or the crown. They were so greedy and selfish that it was unbearable. I think not having them in the story would have actually dulled the story down a bit and this would have been like a 3 star book. But since they are here, and were considered bad boys. U know how bad boys are described as cute and hot, they were described like that in this book which I'm all up for.

The Plot:
Overall, I knew that there was going to be another book after this one so I decide to not ruin this one. Just like how The Selection was it ends off with the elites. A lot of history is revealed between America and Maxon and what happened after she got married. There are certain moments where you just wish this was America's story all over again. Eadlyn's and America's thoughts are so alike. They think so sharply. Loved it.

Favourite Quote:
"I'm not sure anyone knows what they're looking for until they find it."

That's it for my review on The Heir by Kiera Cass and I'm sorry if this post contained any spoilers for you.
