The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

Posted by Unknown at 08:07:00
Sypnosis (from Goodreads):
A princess must find her place in a reborn world.

She flees on her wedding day.

She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor's secret collection.

She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father.

She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan.

The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can't abide. Like having to marry someone she's never met to secure a political alliance.

Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. She settles in among the common folk, intrigued when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

My Review -- 5/5 stars!

Beautiful writing. Wonderful world. This was the kind of book that no matter what you can't know the plot. Not knowing the plot almost killed you inside. That was mistake I did. I was so stupid and searched up the plot twist. Even after searching it up I was shocked at what I just read. It was like Mind-blowing. After searching it up, I regretted it.

The world building was amazing. This is a Fantasy book following betrayal, castles, princesses, princes, marriage and friendship. Lia was such a relatable character when it came to who to trust. Mary has created such a fantastic world that if I were to live in, I would love to.

Characters:

Lia (Protagonist)
She is the main character, who does not want to get married by someone who she has never seen before. She runs away on her wedding day and her life in the village begins. A good part of the book is told from her perspective.

The Prince
The prince goes after Lia to find her, and to tell her that she was not alone in this. He wanted the wedding stopped or atleast postponed far enough that they knew each other. The difference with this is that The Prince had actually seen Lia but she had never seen him. I feel like telling if he is a Protagonist or Antagonist might ruin the book for people.

The Assassin
The Assassin is sent by Venda to kill Lia. He is the first biggest Assassin sent by Venda but he is not the ruler of Venda. By killing the princess, Venda can go and have the land of Morrigan because Venda literally stands on ruins.

Walther
He is the brother of Lia. Lia has many siblings but she is close to only to Walther. He supported her and knew that she was going to run away. But he thought she was captured by Venda so he gets a army after them just for her. And a lot of emotional stuff happens after that that really effects the plot and Lia's life.

Pauline (Protagonist)
Pauline is Lia's friend and lady-in-waiting. She ran away with Lia to her village that she grew up in and offered Lia to stay at her house. She is a wonderful friend who is so careful of everything that Lia does.

The Plot:
The story takes place in Morrighan (Lia's home) and Venda. There were a lot of plot twists in this book but the main was discovering which one was who. Half of the book is based on who was who for the reader and Lia but the other half is her captured by the Assassin and them bringing Lia to Venda.

Kaden or Rafe?
I have been asked this question many times by friends and I'm team Kaden. He was so nice and sweet from the start. I actually thought that he was going to be someone but then he was not and it broke my heart. (not telling who was who).
So the idea is that either The Prince or The Assassin are Kaden or Rafe. Kaden is the sweet one. He is nice, sweet and loving whereas Rafe is rude to everyone. Except for Lia. Kaden and Rafe both fall for Lia. But one of them is The Assassin but its ok for the other one because he is the prince.

Want to find out who is who? Either read the book (highly recommended) or search it up.

Favourite quote:
