Gathering Frost - the re-telling!
I know I know, I'm the worst. I read the second book first and the first book second. When I received the second book through NetGalley I got really excited that I didn't bother researching whether if its a series or not. But then after reading the second book I found out that these books are stand-alone but in a series so I got happy.
This book starts off with a girl named Jade and her adventure. She lived in New York when two world parallel from each other crashed. The fantasy world comes into New York City. Instead of apartments stands a castle. Queen Diedre lives in the castle. She has the ability to strip away emotions. When Jade was little the queen stripped away all her emotions but some she left. The emotion that she left off was for her own benefit. She is frozen stone at heart. Meaning that she would kill any person, at the command of the queen, without giving it a second thought. The only emotion that the Queen left in everyone is Fear.
Prince Asher is the son of the Queen. His history starts revealing as soon as the Queen sends Jade to betray Asher and bring him back to her. Don't worry I'm not giving away any spoilers.
In the original Sleep Beauty it is seen that Maleficent curses Rose that when she pricks her finger on a spinning wheel she will go into a deep sleep that only true love's kiss is the solution for waking her up. In this book, Jade's emotions are stripped off by the Queen and she can't feel anything and the solution for breaking her curse is intact true love's kiss.
Ironically, sleeping beauty is mentioned in this novel. It was interesting to see her exploring more and more in this book.
If you are looking for a super easy, quick read, I would recommend reading these series. These are fun with a easy plot that is understandable.
